Adri Hamael is man with a dream.  Using soccer as the vehicle to promote peace in war torn countries, Adri has spent a great deal of energy to put together the Vancouver International Soccer Festival!

Yesterday, we were at the pool draw party at Robson Square in downtown Vancouver.  Players and event sponsors gathered together for the event.  The food was supplied by Nuba and featured many delicious Lebanese fare.  Vancouver International Soccer Festival sponsors from CIBC was also at the event.  We photographed a brief attendance by Mayor Gregor Robertson who was a guest speaker at the event, as a great supporter of soccer in Vancouver, his presence at the event really elevated the excitement level amongst the guests!

As the night proceeded we came to the pool draw for the event.  Much excitement built up as teams were announced and the tournament match up pools were being formed.

To photograph the event we wanted to ensure that we had good lighting.  We mixed off hot shoe lighting and ambient lighting to give some depth in the photograph and create some pleasing shadows.  Blending in exposures for ambient lighting as well as off hot shoe lighting we were able to preserve the images projected behind the speakers.  Photographing events requires quick wits and strategic planning.  Making sure that you have good lighting as well as the ability to move and photograph on the fly is key to ensuring that you get a good variety of photos with good depth of field and interesting lighting.

We were happy to be part of this event and we hope to be able to photograph it again in the future!
