Vancouver wedding photography: Getting the Wedding Photography you want
How do I know you're the right studio for me?
The important things for you to consider when hiring a photographer for your wedding are outlined below. In the event you have other questions, feel free to email us or give us a call!
- Make sure you like the studio. The person you deal with is important. You want to ensure that the company you hire has a friendly staff. If the person talking to you is rude and abrasive or just isn't showing any interest in you, then no matter how good the work is… you aren't going to have a good experience.
- See a large body of work. It is one thing to see the best of the best of a photographer. They can take one or 2 photos from each wedding and make an album look stunning. Don't be afraid to ask them to see a large selection of photos. Ask them to show you photos from the actual day as well as any portrait sessions they did. It is one thing to have great photos at a portrait session that has no time constraints or important events to occur, but it is totally different to have a constantly changing environment and still produce great images with only one chance!
- Understand how the buying process works. There are dozens of ways that photographers package their services and products. Make sure you understand how everything works and really look at the fine print. Last thing you want is to expect to pay $3000 for your photography only to get a bill for $5000 because you missed something in the fine print.
- Don't be afraid to ask about turnaround time. Some photographers may only do weddings part time. They may be great photographers, but if they get busy in their day to day jobs then you may wait a long time to see your photographs. We have heard stories where some brides hadn't seen their photographs until well after their first child was born! So make sure the turnaround time is reasonable!
- Price isn't always a good indicator of a great photographer. Prices are all over the map. It is in your best interest to really investigate multiple photographers to see who has the best bang for your buck! Remember that some photographers have bigger overhead than others. Maybe they own a studio outside of their home. Just remember that wedding photographers typically make their income in 6 months of the year, so a person who works out of their home may be less than a person who works out of a studio. That being said, there may be services and products that a full studio can offer that a small home based business may not. Ask lots of questions so that you can make an informed decision about choosing your photographer!
- Remember to feed your photographers or at least allow them time within your day to get food. Thinking constantly and photographing is hard work and uses up lots of energy! We are human and we do get hungry. A good rule of thumb is to allow a food break once every 4-5 hours.
